HOW TO BYPASS BIOS PASSWORDS

Accessing information on the hard disk

When you turn on the host machine,

Ø enter the CMOS setup menu (usually you have to press F2, or DEL, or CTRL+ALT+S during the boot sequence) and

Ø go to STANDARD CMOS SETUP

Ø set the channel to which you have put the hard disk as TYPE=Auto, MODE=AUTO,

Ø Then SAVE & EXIT SETUP.

Ø Now you have access to the hard disk.

Standard BIOS backdoor passwords

The first, less invasive, attempt to bypass a BIOS password is to try on of these standard manufacturer’s backdoor passwords:

AWARD BIOS
AWARD SW, AWARD_SW, Award SW, AWARD PW, _award, awkward, J64, j256, j262, j332, j322, 01322222, 589589, 589721, 595595, 598598, HLT, SER, SKY_FOX,

aLLy, aLLY, Condo, CONCAT, TTPTHA, aPAf, HLT, KDD, ZBAAACA, ZAAADA, ZJAAADC, djonet,

AMI BIOS
AMI, A.M.I., AMI SW, AMI_SW, BIOS, PASSWORD, HEWITT RAND, Oder

Other passwords you may try (for AMI/AWARD or other BIOSes)
LKWPETER, lkwpeter, BIOSTAR, biostar, BIOSSTAR, biosstar, ALFAROME, Syxz, Wodj

Flashing BIOS via hardware

If you can’t Access the Computer when it’s on, and the standard backdoor passwords didn’t work, you’ll have to flash the BIOS via hardware. Please read the important notes at the end of this section before to try any of these methods.

Using the jumpers

1. The canonical way to flash the BIOS via hardware is to plug, unplug, or switch a jumper on the motherboard (for “switching a jumper” I mean that

2. you find a jumper that joins the central pin and a side pin of a group of three pins,

3. you should then unplug the jumper

4. and then plug it to the central pin and to the pin on the opposite side,

5. so if the jumper is normally on position 1-2,

6. You have to put it on position 2-3 or viceversa).

7. This jumper is not always located near to the BIOS, but could be anywhere on the motherboard.

8. While the computer is turned OFF.

9. Wait a couple of seconds then put the jumper back to its original position.

10. In some motherboards it may happen that the computer will automatically turn itself on,

11. After flashing the BIOS. In this case,

12. turn it off, and put the jumper back to its original position,

13. Then turn it on again. Other motherboards require you turn the computer on for a few seconds to flash the BIOS.

Removing the battery

Ø If you can’t find the jumper to flash the BIOS or if such jumper doesn’t exist,

Ø You can remove the battery that keeps the BIOS memory alive.

Ø It’s a button-size battery somewhere on the motherboard (on elder computers the battery could be a small, typically blue, cylinder soldered to the motherboard,

Ø but usually has a jumper on its side to disconnect it,

Ø Otherwise you’ll have to unsolder it and then solder it back).

Ø Take it away for 15-30 minutes or more,

Ø then put it back and the data contained into the BIOS memory should be volatilized

Ø I’d suggest you to remove it for about one hour to be sure,

Ø Because if you put it back when the data aren’t erased yet you’ll have to wait more time, as you’ve never removed it.

Ø If at first it doesn’t work, try to remove the battery overnight.

Ø Important note: in laptop and notebooks you don’t have to remove the Computer’s power batteries (which would be useless),

Ø But you should open your computer and remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard.

Short-circuiting the chip

Ø Another way to clear the CMOS RAM is to reset it by short circuiting two pins of the BIOS chip for a few seconds.

Ø You can do that with a small piece of electric wire or with a bended paper clip.

Ø Always make sure that the Computer is Turned OFF before to try this operation.
Similar chips with different names if they are compatible chips made by another brand.

Ø If you find the BIOS chip you are working on matches with one of the following you can try to short-circuit the appropriate pins.

Ø Be careful, because this operation may damage the chip.

Remote Assistance Services

There are various Remote Assistance Service tools available worldwide on internet some of them are Team Viewer, Show My Pc, dameware, VNC etc.

The basic purpose of such remote tools is to provide support to remote locations where physical assistance is not possible instantly, these are mainly used for the business purposes where problems are to be resolved within the fixed SLA’s and require the instant support against the problems.

Lets discuss the functionality of these tools in details.

For eg. Team Viwer:

Team Viewer is one of the most commonly used tool world wide for remote assistance and it is freely available on internet , we can download it for free from the url www.teamviewer.com

Its very simple to download it onto the system as it has a single file of a few mb, but it is to be installed on both the system which will communicate with each other remotely, lets c the complete process via screen shots shown below.

When we got this just above shown screen , we just have to provide the id and the password to the person who wants to access our system for remote assistance.

Team Viewer is a complete secure way to access the systems via remote because every time we wants to access the system remotely we require the authentication from the other end and without that we can not access the system because we do not have the password( it will keep on changing every time when we open the team viewer window).

Usage :
With the help of team viewer we can have the access of a system via remote with end user’s permission and can resolve the issue remotely at priority basis.

Features:-
Team viewer have several features inbuilt in itself like we can restart the system in safe mode or in normal mode according to our requirements.

Also it has a chat feature installed in it so that the two parties can communicate with each other if required via live chat, also it has several other features like file transfer , lets say we wants to transfer a file two a remote system , the we can also do that by help of team viewer in a secured way.

In all if we notice team viewer is an important tool by which we can do several things remotely (with end user’s permission) in a much secure way. Like team viewer we have several other remote tools which are used for the same purpose.

Accessing a system remotely will resolve the queries much faster and also in a secure way so that user’s information is kept secret.

Online Computer Help – the new face of IT Troubleshooting

The most amazing thing about Remote PC Repair is that the customer has to just sit in front of his system and watch the remote professional doing the physical repairing job on his PC.

It is known that major share of all PC related troubles do not occur by hardware reasons but are generated by software related issues. Despite the fact that, the major work includes repairing of computers software application and this does not require technician to handle the keyboard, mouse or any other Computer Hardware. Also it helps in avoiding the hassles of taking disconnecting all the cables and taking it physically to computer repair shop.

Even doing this work does not help us in saving the cost of repair technician. And it is facts that, Remote Computer Repair can save a PC owner a lot of cost which is otherwise heavily charged when PC is taken to a traditional repair shop.

Some areas which Remote desktop technicians are proficient in are: Software Issues/Driver installation or repair/Hardware problems etc.; performance optimization; resolving of crashing and hanging problems; upgradation; and sometimes provide 24x7 support. The only prerequisite for the remote service is that the client computer should have High Speed Internet Service and the remote software installed on their computer.

No matter dial up service can also work, but for diagnosis work, high speed internet is required. Many computer users may be anxious about the trustworthiness or proficiency of a Remote Computer Repair engineer, but one can easily find the type of services one provides, and it is better to check the company before providing your credit card information or sending online payments.

It’s known that in this time of recession, wasting money on gasoline while searching for repair shop is nothing but just a waste of money. Most Remote Computer Repair engineers can resolve the PC problem before the PC user is finished with having breakfast or just a cup of tea.

April Fool’s Virus

Internet Users all over the world are holding their breath amidst fear of the April Fool’s Virus spreading itself like wildfire. A variant of the Conficker Virus that went live on January last.

This program could delete all of your files on PC, use zombie PCs — those controlled by a master — to force shutdown websites or monitor a person’s keyboard strokes to collect sensitive personal information like bank account information or passwords! Other channels of infection could be USB drives, file sharing mode, computers without proper password management and those without Latest Security Updates.

Industry experts all over the world like ICANN, Neustar, Microsoft Support, Afilias, Symantec, Verisign, CNNIC, Public Internet Registry, AOL, etc are pooling their heads together to ward off this mighty threat. The concerning fact is that the April Fool’s Virus, among its 15 million infected hosts, has been discovered in a number of government computer systems, which usually are monitored regularly for potential compromise.

The Virus capitalizes on a vulnerability of Windows Operating System and so Microsoft has gone to the extent of announcing a reward of $250,000 to anyone who leads to the arrest of this virus creator. Microsoft has also created a patch to fix the vulnerability.

Some experts on the other hand, thinks it’s all funny and just a hoax aimed for once-in-a-year April Fool’s day. The best part is to exercise caution. Users should update their anti-virus softwares, keep Microsoft updates up-to-date, and change their passwords for higher strength.
